‘Southington High School’ Placed on Lockdown Amid Shooting Threat

The Southington High School in Southington, Connecticut, faced an urgent lockdown following a shooting threat on Thursday morning. In response to the report received around 9:30 am, the Southington Police Department dispatched law enforcement agencies to the school campus located at 720 Pleasant St, Southington, CT.

Southington Police Department posted update on Facebook,

“UPDATE:After working with state and federal officials, it was determined that the threat this morning was unsubstantiated.The high school will resume normal operations with an added police presence to remain on campus for the remainder of the day. Additionally, there will be an added police presence at all other schools townwide for the rest of the day.We will continue to work with state and federal officials to investigate this matter further and, if possible, prosecute to the fullest extent.

The Southington high school received a call a short while ago with a threat of gun violence inside the school. The call originated from an out of state number.The Southington Police Department has deployed additional officers to the school as an added pre-caution and the district and police department are currently working with the appropriate state and federal agencies to assess the credibility of the threat.Additionally, there is an added police presence town-wide at all schools at this time. This is precautionary only.We are working in cooperation with the Southington Board of Education and will send an update once more information is available.”

The threat, originating from an out-of-state number, led to the immediate deployment of additional officers by the Southington Police Department to the school. Presently, the district and the police department are actively collaborating with relevant state and federal agencies to assess the credibility of the threat.

Furthermore, there has been an increase in police presence across all schools in the town as a precautionary measure. The authorities assure that this measure is solely precautionary. The Southington Board of Education is working in tandem with the police department, and an update will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
