Librado Leroy “Snook” Lopez III, 40, of Cortland passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, the results of a motor vehicle accident. He was born on November 10, 1983 in Cuero, TX to Leroy Jr. and Rhonda (Probst) Lopez. He graduated from Beatrice High School, Southeast Community College, majoring in broadcasting and mass media, and then Peru State College with a Business Administrative degree.
Leroy married Whitney Busboom on April 29, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He worked various jobs including announcing for KNDY in Marysville, and ran for State Auditor in 2022. He was recently fulfilling his dream of owning and operating the Wil-Bol Lanes in Wilber, where he ran the kitchen. His family and childhood friends knew him as “Snook”, a nickname given to him by his grandmother.
Leroy was known for his huge heart and his contagious smile and laugh. He was a devoted Cowboys, Husker, and Royals fan. He was also a member of the Beatrice Eagles Club. He enjoyed bowling and singing. In recent years he had embraced his relationship with the Lord and became a big part of the Christ Lutheran Church family. He was currently serving on the church council. After eleven and half years, Whitney and Leroy fulfilled their dreams of becoming parents to Miles Leroy Lopez on October 10, 2023. Although his time together with Miles was brief, he was an amazing father.
Survivors include his wife, Whitney (Busboom) Lopez of Cortland; son, Miles; parents, Leroy Jr. and Rhonda Lopez; parents-in-law, Brian and Beth Busboom, and Doug Schoneweis; grandparents, Sharon Albert, Linda Huston, Ron and Verla Busboom, Gussie VanLaningham, and Alice Schoneweis; sisters-in-law, Tara and Frank Hanshaw and children Blake and Brant, Jenni Bernhardt and children Riley and Bryce, Teresa Lopez and son Alec; brothers-in-law, Logan (Courtney) Schoneweis and daughter Raylynn, and Dylan Schoneweis; special family aunt, Angi (James) Lannigan; cousin, Alek Klepper; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremy Lopez; mother-in-law, Lisa Schoneweis; brother-in-law, Matthew Bernhardt; grandparents, Leroy and Elena Lopez Sr., Larry Probst, and Kenny Huston.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Michael Williams and Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M. on Monday in the church basement. Visitation will be held at the Fox Funeral Home on Sunday from noon until 8:00 P.M.
