William & Mary Std injured in Williamsburg car collision involving CEO of The Colonial Williamsburg foundation

In a shocking incident on Thursday morning, a 21-year-old student from William & Mary was critically injured after being struck by a car on Richmond Road. The collision occurred at 8:12 a.m. near Armistead Avenue, close to Sorority Court, the hub of sorority houses at the university.

The driver of the vehicle involved was identified as Clifford Bridges Fleet III, aged 53, who serves as the president and CEO of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. According to Michelle Anaya, a police spokesperson, Fleet emerged unharmed from the accident. Charges against him are pending, as per a press release from the authorities.

The victim was quickly transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for urgent medical attention. The incident prompted an immediate response from the university community. William & Mary’s Vice President for Student Affairs, Ginger Ambler, expressed the university’s deep concern, stating, “Our thoughts are with this student and her family and friends. We will share updates when they’re available.”

Dr. Bryant Grey, the medical director of Williamsburg, played a crucial role in providing medical assistance both at the scene and during transportation. Emergency services were efficiently handled by the Williamsburg Fire Department Emergency Medical Services.

Law enforcement agencies, including the State Police and the Williamsburg Police Department, are actively investigating the incident. As the inquiry continues, a section of Richmond Road between Boundary Street and Dawson Circle’s westbound side has been temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation.
