Rodeo Announcer Mike Mathis passes away unexpectedly

Lufkin, TX – The rodeo community mourns the sudden loss of Mike Mathis, a revered figure and the unmistakable voice behind the Dixie National Rodeo for over twenty-five remarkable years. His unexpected passing followed a medical incident, leaving the community in shock and mourning the departure of this beloved cowboy.

Commissioner Andy Gipson conveyed the heartbreaking news, stating, “With great sadness, I learned this morning my good friend, the one and only Mike Mathis, passed away and went to be with the Lord.” Tributes to Mathis flooded social media, highlighting his unparalleled presence and dedication to the rodeo circuit.

“Today, the world lost one of the greatest rodeo announcers, Rest In Peace Mike Mathis!!! His unique voice resonated in every town and city he graced.
