The incident occurred on the Locust Creek Bridge, where a single-vehicle crash unfolded, leaving residents in shock and grief.
The tragedy struck at approximately 6:00 AM on October 22, 2023, when law enforcement agencies were called to the scene of the accident on Illinois State Route 127. According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, Robert Trevor Green, a 17-year-old from Flora, Illinois, was the restrained driver of a KIA sedan traveling north on Route 127. For reasons yet unknown, the vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed to the west side of the guard rail, became airborne upon reaching Locust Creek, and then struck the north side of the creek embankment.
Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Green was tragically pronounced dead at the scene at 6:23 AM by Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger. The accident has left the community in deep sorrow, as friends, family, and neighbors grapple with the loss of a young life.
