Phil Quartararo obituary: Former executive vice president of EMI Group passes away

The music world is in mourning as news circulates of the passing of Phil Quartararo, a towering figure in the industry. With a storied career that saw him in prestigious roles such as President and Chairman at The Hello Group and CEO at Warner Bros and Virgin Records, Quartararo’s sudden demise has left the industry in shock and sorrow. The exact cause of death remains undisclosed, respecting the family’s wishes for privacy during this difficult time.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Quartararo’s journey in the music industry began during his student years. His passion for music led him to transform his bedroom into a hub for booking music acts. Educated at Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, and later at Syracuse University, he became roommates with industry stalwarts John Sykes and Rob Light, both of whom went on to make significant contributions to the music world.

While the details of Quartararo’s passing remain private, the silence surrounding the circumstances underscores the family’s request for privacy. The loss has cast a profound shadow of grief over his loved ones, as the industry mourns the departure of a respected figure.

Bruce Pilato shared a post on fb on the death of Quartararo:My heart is broken. One of my oldest and dearest friends has left us. Phil Quartararo and I attended Syracuse University together for 4 years and took many of our classes together. Along with Rob Light, John Sykes, Marty Diamond, and others- we eventually found our place in the music business. Phil died earlier today of pancreatic cancer, it was reported. Of those in the “S.U. Music Mafia,” Phil, in particular, was the one I felt closest to. We both had Italian-American backgrounds and he had the biggest heart of anyone I ever knew in the business. Phil was a music industry superstar who started as a college rep for A&M RECORDS, and eventually worked his way up to PRESIDENT of both VIRGIN and WARNER BROS RECORDS.

We would often run into each other at various industry, Grammy and Recording Academy events. He always gave me a big hug and never stopped calling me “BRUISER,” the nickname he gave me in college. Phil and I last hung out at the 2023 MusiCares Awards this past February where he was working with BERRY GORDY and SMOKEY ROBINSON. We had planned on getting together with our wives in the near future, but, it was not meant to be. So long Phil, your legacy will last for decades to come in this business we call the Music Industy. If they listen to hit records in the Great Beyond, Phil Quartararo probably had something to do with them…

Beyond his illustrious career, Quartararo was renowned for his passionate advocacy of artists’ rights, a testament to his profound respect for their craft. Described as compassionate and dedicated, his impact on the industry and the individuals within it will be a lasting part of his legacy.

Condolences and tributes are pouring in from across the music industry, with friends, colleagues, and those he supported grappling with the pain of his loss. As the industry reflects on Quartararo’s remarkable life and career, it is a time for remembrance and honoring a figure whose influence will continue to inspire future generations. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those affected by his passing. May his soul rest in peace. Stay with us for any further updates on this story.
