Dr. Richard Keith Bowers, D.O. passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on January 20, 1948 in Kirksville, Missouri, to the late Orville and Lila (Bergman) Bowers. On March 1, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda June Slaughter in Queen City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2019.
Richard was a 1974 graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency of psychiatry in 1997. Over the years, he worked for The State of Missouri, Mid Missouri Mental Health, and The University of Missouri. He balanced his professional life with his personal life through his passions for photography, motorcycles, target shooting, history, Legos, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was adored and respected for his good sense of humor, intelligence, and kind, gentle, easy-going ways.
Some of his biggest admirers include his children: Amy Gaffney (David), Stacy Bowers, Kelly Bowers (Mark Bauridl), and Eric Bowers (Carrie Watkins); brother: Danny Bowers; grandchildren: Elias and Ian Gaffney, Bailey, Riley, Avery, Casey, and Brady Pointer, Alex Amsberg, Ava Meinhardt, Luke Bauridl, Audrey Bowers, and Gabriel Watkins-Mocumbi; great-grandchildren: Ryker and Rylan Whitney, Kaydence, Scarlett, Harley, Elora, Lilian, Eleanor, Eloise, Henry, and Anna Pointer; and a host of nieces and nephews. Richard is greeted in Heaven by his wife of 50 years, his parents, and his brother, Ronald Bowers.
