Jacob Leedom Obituary: Gilbert High School student passes away just at the age of 17 in Iowa

Gilbert, Iowa – The community of Gilbert mourns the passing of Jacob Edward Leedom, a beloved 17-year-old student of Gilbert High School. Jacob, born on May 24, 2006, in Des Moines, peacefully departed from this world at his home in Gilbert on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Kris Braafhart shared Jacob Leedom’s death news and wrote,

“It is with a very heavy heart that we want to let everyone know that Jacob Leedom, my nephew, passed away yesterday. Jacob was such a fun loving kid, who was a believer in Christ. Yesterday he lost his battle with depression. Please keep Rondi Ness Leedom , Mike, Jessica Grebner and Colin Grebner in your prayers along with all of our families. Fly high in peace Jake. Service details will be shared when we have them. Deb Minear Ness Tony Ness Jamie Loonan Ness Jeff Braafhart.”

The son of Michael Todd and Rondi Leigh (Ness) Leedom, Jacob was an active senior at Gilbert High School. He engaged passionately in various activities including soccer, marching and jazz band, and was a proud member of the Clay Commanders Trap Club. Jacob’s strong faith in Christ resonated through his active involvement in the youth ministry, where he was part of a small group and contributed his technical expertise in audio-visual tech work.

In his leisure, Jacob found joy in playing video games, sharing hunting and fishing adventures with his Grandpa, reveling in fireworks, and cherishing moments with friends and family. Often, he could be found in the garage, working alongside his dad on his cherished 1983 Dodge pickup, fondly named “Bruce.” An enthusiast of International Scouts, Jacob dedicated part-time hours working at Anything Scout.
