Oswego County, NY – The community of Oswego County is reeling from the sudden and unexpected passing of Eric Anthony Bresee, a dedicated and esteemed leader who passed away on Saturday due to a sudden heart attack. At 44 years old, Eric’s untimely death has deeply saddened his family, friends, and the wider community.
A Hannibal, New York resident, Eric Bresee was known for his commitment and contributions to various facets of community service and counseling. Growing up in Hannibal with his parents Catherine and Lawrence, he pursued academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in counseling and psychological services from SUNY Oswego. He obtained professional certification in mental health counseling, initiating his career at Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) as a transient resident counselor.

His dedication and capabilities swiftly led to promotions within OCO, culminating in his appointment as Program Director, where he managed and supervised numerous pivotal programs, including Homeless Services, Services to Aid Families, Medicaid Service Coordination, and more. Eric’s accomplishments were numerous, earning him recognition through awards like the Outstanding Employee and the prestigious Amelia Whelahan Leadership Award.
Eric was not only committed to professional growth but also actively engaged in various organizations. He was a member of Young Professionals Voice, the National Management Association, and Rotary International. Additionally, he actively participated in leadership development programs, contributing to the New York State Community Action Agency and Leadership Oswego County.
His impact extended beyond his professional endeavors. Eric served on the board of directors for Farnham Family Services before becoming its Executive Director. He continued his commitment to mental health therapy as an independent contractor and remained involved in various community organizations, serving as Treasurer of the Board for Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County and as President of the New York State Coalition for Homeless Youth.
Eric’s passion for sports and community engagement shone through his involvement in coaching at the YMCA Crown 12U League and participating in the Crown 30+ League.
