The Oklahoma community was left reeling after a devastating incident at a high school football game on August 25, resulting in the tragic death of 16-year-old Cordae Carter. Cordae, a Midwest City High School student, was attending the game between Choctaw and Del City high schools at Choctaw High School when a dispute between two unidentified males escalated into gunfire, leaving several injured.
According to OKCFox, an argument between the two males escalated unexpectedly, culminating in shots fired during the third quarter of the game. The outcome was heartbreaking, with Cordae Carter losing his life and several others, including at least three females, sustaining injuries.
In response to the profound loss, Daniel Chapin initiated a fundraising campaign through The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, aiming to support Cordae’s family during this trying time. The campaign, established as a tribute to the young victim, has garnered immense community support. As of August 29, the initiative had already raised $925 toward its $5000 goal.

During the ill-fated game, Cordae’s life was tragically cut short as a result of a gunshot wound to the groin. Choctaw police officers, who were present at the event, made immediate efforts to save Cordae’s life. The school district had deployed a significant security presence, including Choctaw officers and EMT-trained personnel, in preparation for the event.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Choctaw police officers and even an on-duty trauma surgeon took action to provide life-saving assistance to the victims. Amid the chaos, a Choctaw police officer also discharged their firearm, injuring a 42-year-old man, possibly one of the individuals involved in the initial dispute. The injured man was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he received critical medical attention.
