News Colin Manock
Dr Colin Manock, who has been South Australia’s leading forensic pathologist for 27 years, is the subject of episode 5 of Australian Crime Story, which airs on Nine and is streamable on 9Now. The episode is hosted by Adam Shand.
According to Shand, the technique used in this episode of Crime Stories in Australia casts doubt on some of the findings.
Since the birth of boy Joshua Notle in 1992, many questions have been raised. Shortly after the baby boy was born, his mother Julieanne and father Sean McClusky separated, but he remained a healthy and content child.
It was difficult for Nottle and McClusky to share a house with Nottle’s new partner and another couple while they continued to live together.
Because Nottle is the main provider for the family and works 12-hour shifts with sporadic hotel jobs, she is not always at home to look after Joshua.
Joshua was sadly discovered in his crib on the morning of August 17, 1993, cold and unresponsive. He was taken to Modbury hospital, where he was officially declared dead. Joshua’s injuries included a spinal cord injury, two broken ribs, bruises all over his body and a spinal cord injury.
When Victoria Police arrived at Nottle’s residence and saw the severity of the baby’s injuries, they arrested McClusky on suspicion of assault. Joshua’s death constituted a homicide, so an autopsy was required.
Dr. Colin Manock presided over the boy’s autopsy and concluded that bronchitis, or a severe cough caused by a lung infection, was the cause of death despite the boy’s numerous injuries. .
When two other children in the neighborhood died at the same time as Joshua, it was suspected that it was domestic violence and murder. According to Shand, these infants were also taken to see Dr. Manock, who reached the same conclusion: bronchopneumonia.
Other children had many cracks, fractures, lacerations and bruises when they first arrived. A writer who has followed Dr Manock’s career said of one child: “The injuries were so severe, he looked like the victim of a terrible traffic accident.”
The doctors who saw the autopsy results at the hospital were so horrified that they requested an investigation into the deaths of these young men, which eventually happened.
