DeSantis replaces campaign manager in major shake-up:

Yes, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has replaced veteran chief of staff James Uthmeier with Generra Peck as his campaign manager. In early surveys for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, DeSantis is trailing former President Donald Trump.

Peck had managed the campaign for a little more than a year. She was hired to assist DeSantis with his nationwide campaign, but she came under fire for her inexperience and how she handled the funds.

DeSantis considers Uthmeier to be one of his most trusted advisors and a close confidant. Since 2021, he has served as DeSantis’ chief of staff.

The reorganization is interpreted as evidence that DeSantis is treating his campaign more seriously and intends to make a strong run for the Republican nominee. Additionally, it shows that DeSantis is open to making adjustments to his squad in order to raise his chances of success.

James Uthmeier Details About

According to a statement released by the governor’s office on Thursday, a resident of Destin has been selected as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ new chief of staff.

When current chief of staff Adrian Lukis resigns on October 1, James Uthmeier, who is now DeSantis’ general counsel, will take up those responsibilities.

Lukis had stated clearly that he would not hold the position of chief of staff for as long as his predecessor, Shane Strum, who held the position for two years, according to recent reporting in Florida Politics, a political news website that covers the state.

In February, Strum resigned as DeSantis’ chief of staff to take the top job at South Florida’s taxpayer-funded Broward Health, which includes five hospitals and a handful of other medical centers.

In a Thursday email, Taryn Fenske, the governor’s director of communications, said, “We greatly appreciate Adrian’s leadership, expertise, and service to Floridians.” He has been with the government from the beginning, serving first as Deputy Chief of Staff and later as Governor DeSantis’ Chief of Staff, and he has consistently placed Floridians’ needs first in all he does.

Uthmeier, a Fort Walton Beach High School alum, joined the governor’s legal team in March 2019 as deputy general counsel and has been working there since October of last year.

Fenske wrote in an email on Thursday, “We are happy to welcome James as the next Chief of Staff for Governor DeSantis, where he will continue to serve the people of Florida.

Uthmeier has experience working for the U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who held that position throughout President Donald Trump’s administration, as a senior adviser and counsel.

Jones Day, the seventh-largest law firm in the US, also employed Uthmeier as an associate. From late 2012 to early 2014, Uthmeier served as a law clerk in the office of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio before joining Jones Day.

Uthmeier earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he also held the position of managing editor for the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy. He also holds a graduate business degree from the University of Florida’s Hough School of Business.

Uthmeier also holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida in political science and business administration. He was a member of the 2010 Southeastern Conference champion UF track and field team as well as the cross-country squad.

Ryan Newman, a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and the United States Military Academy at West Point, will take over Uthmeier’s position as general counsel in DeSantis’ office.

After serving from 1999 to 2003 as a captain in the 10th U.S. Cavalry of the U.S. Army, Newman continued his career by working as the attorney general’s general counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice from March 2020 to January of this year, all during the presidency of President Donald Trump.

In the past, Newman worked as a legal assistant for Texas senator Ted Cruz and as chief counsel for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.

Regarding Newman’s forthcoming responsibilities as DeSantis’s general counsel, Fenske’s email stated, “We are thrilled to welcome him to the team and know he will be an invaluable part of the administration.”
