In the early hours following Halloween, the Salem State University community was shaken by the tragic death of 18-year-old Carl Hans Beliard. The freshman, also a member of the men’s basketball team, was found in a vehicle on Forest Avenue with gunshot wounds, according to the Salem Police. Despite swift transportation to Salem Hospital, Carl-Hens Beliard, a Worcester resident, was pronounced dead. Authorities were quick to arrive at the scene after receiving a report of the shooting at 22 Forest Ave at 1:24 a.m.
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker assured the public that there appears to be no immediate threat to the Salem State community and that the incident does not seem to be a random act of violence. Collaborative efforts between State Police investigators, representatives from Salem State University, and the Salem Police Department are underway to identify and bring the perpetrator to justice.
Following the incident near a Salem State student parking lot, traffic was redirected in both directions as investigations unfolded. Investigators were observed examining a residence where a black car, visibly impacted by a concrete barrier, bore a conspicuous bullet hole in its rear window. The authorities are actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence to shed light on the tragic events that unfolded on this sorrowful night.
