Carlisle, Pennsylvania – The Cumberland Valley School district is grieving the loss of James “Jim” Koontz, Director of Facilities, following his sudden passing. Shippensburg Greyhound Wrestling conveyed the somber news via social media, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the esteemed official. Koontz’s unexpected departure has left a void in the community, eliciting an outpouring of support for the Koontz family.
Hailing from Duncansville, Pennsylvania, Jim Koontz was a proud alumnus of Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1991. His academic journey led him to Delaware Valley University, where he pursued studies in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Turf, and Turfgrass Management from 1991 to 1995.
Koontz’s professional career was marked by dedication and service. He served as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Penn National Golf Club and Inn in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, from 1996 to 2000, before assuming the role of Grounds Supervisor until 2005.
His passion for education and facilities management led him to the Cumberland Valley School district in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. From 2005 to 2012, Koontz served as the Assistant Facilities Director, progressing to the position of Director of Facilities. Known for his impactful presence and infectious joy, Jim Koontz left an indelible mark on those he encountered.

Jim Koontz you were a great friend and mentor that’s left us to soon.“You will be missed and I can’t thank you enough for all the laughs, great times, and late night phone calls saying “hey Sammy what are you doing tomorrow I need you to work this tournament”. Thanks for all that youve done for myself many others and the wrestling community.”
