Tragedy struck New York City on July 8, 2023, when a series of shootings occurred that left an elderly man dead and several others injured. Thomas Abreu, a 25-year-old suspect, is accused of carrying out a shooting, targeting random people across Brooklyn and Queens.

The first victim, a man in stable condition, was shot around 11:10 am. Soon after, Homod Saeidi, an 87-year-old man, was shot near 108-19 Jamaica Avenue in Queens. Despite being rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Saeidi tragically passed away from her injuries. The news of his death came as a shock to his devastated family. According to Ahmed, his father had a normal morning routine that included a three to four-mile run, a visit to the local park, and then a visit to the mosque to pray. Tragically, he followed the same routine the day he was shot. Homod Saeidi is a father of six, owns groceries and is involved in real estate.

It’s been two days since a maniac, Thomas Abreu committed a mass shooting in NYC.

Disturbing footage of the shooting, showing Homod Saeidi in a bloody shirt and on his knees, was obtained by authorities. The video captures the heartbreaking moment, as well as the scene of a compassionate bystander running to his aid.

Law enforcement officials later discovered another shooting at the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 131st Street at about 11:36 a.m. Fortunately, the victim in that incident was not injured. Police quickly shared photos of suspect Thomas Abreu with all the NYPD officers on the street. This resulted in him being identified and subsequently arrested by officers from Areas 103 and 113 in Queens, just after 1pm.

During his arrest, it was revealed that Abreu was carrying a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine and carrying a substantial amount of ammunition on him. Given the level of violence he displayed, law enforcement officials expressed gratitude to the NYPD for their swift action.
