Waverly High School student Peyton Shaw killed and others injured in Newfield car crash

Newfield, New York – December 12, 2023: A devastating three-car collision on West Danby Road near Piper Road has claimed the life of 17-year-old Peyton Shaw, a passenger in the tragic accident. The incident occurred earlier today, leaving the town of Newfield in mourning.

The fatal crash took place at approximately 12:50 pm, prompting a swift response from the New York State Police stationed at Ithaca. The collision involved a Toyota Yaris and a Jeep Patriot traveling north on Danby Road. As the Jeep Patriot halted due to a vehicle making a turn ahead, the Toyota Yaris collided with its rear. Consequently, the Yaris veered into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac CT6.

Peyton C. Shaw, a resident of Waverly, NY, and a passenger in the Toyota Yaris, tragically lost their life at the scene. The driver of the Yaris, 18-year-old Dale T. Beeman from Spencer, NY, sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for urgent medical care.

Aristopher D. Bo, a 40-year-old from Waverly, NY, operating the Jeep Patriot, and Stephen M. Lucente, a 29-year-old from Spencer, NY, driving the Cadillac CT6, were assessed by EMS at the crash site but did not require hospitalization.

Plans for Peyton Shaw’s obituary and funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Waverly, the largest village in Tioga County, New York, with a population of 4,177 as per the 2010 U.S. census, is situated in the Southern Tier region, southeast of Elmira. The village was incorporated in 1854 as part of the town of Barton.
