Barack Obama Foundation CEO and board member Valerie Jarrett will deliver a speech March 7 at William & Mary as part of the celebration of Women’s History Month and School Values Week. .
Valerie Jarrett, Executive Director of the Obama Foundation, will speak at W&M during Women’s History Month.
Jarrett, who previously served as a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, will give a presentation on values-based leadership, focusing on W&M’s core values. She will also talk about her experience as a woman who has held many senior leadership positions throughout her career.
The debate will be hosted by Barbara Hamm Lee, host of WHRV’s “Another View,” and it will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Sadler Center Commonwealth Auditorium. Community Values & Restorative Practices, the Student Diversity Center and Alma Mater Productions are all co-sponsors of the event.
The door of the debate opened at six o’clock. Although admission is free and open to the public, tickets are required. On February 24, they will be able to go online at noon.
Jarrett is co-chair of The United State of Women and chairman of the board of directors of Civic Nation. Jarrett serves on the boards of the Economic Club of Chicago, Lyft, Inc., Ralph Lauren Corporation, Walgreens Boot Alliance, Inc., Sweetgreen, Ariel Investments, The University of Chicago, and Sesame Street Workshop. In addition, Jarrett is a member of the Goldman Sachs Advisory Board for One Million Black Women.
The longest serving senior adviser to a US president in history, Jarrett served as Obama’s chief of staff from 2009 to 2017. She led the White House Council of Women and Girls, concurrently managed the Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs offices while serving in that position.
Jarrett holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of Michigan Law School, and he has previously had jobs in both the public and private sectors. She served as chief executive officer of The Habitat Company, commissioner of planning and development for the city of Chicago, and deputy director of Richard M. Daley in addition to being an attorney for ten years.
She has also served as chair of the board of directors of the Chicago Stock Exchange, chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Chicago Medical Center, vice chair of the University of Chicago Board of Trustees, and director of the Federal Reserve Bank. State of Chicago, and chairman of the Chicago Board of Transportation, among other leadership roles on corporate and nonprofit boards over the years.
