Kamloops, BC – The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) community is grappling with grief following a tragic accident that claimed the life of Owyn McInnis, a member of the university’s men’s volleyball team. The accident occurred on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, near the Kamloops campus, leaving two other students injured.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded near the TRU campus, where a compact vehicle carrying three members of the men’s volleyball team was struck by an out-of-control vehicle. The RCMP reported that Owyn McInnis tragically succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the two other students are undergoing treatment for injuries described as “life-altering.”
In addition to the loss of Owyn McInnis, the collision resulted in injuries to seven other individuals, with three requiring hospitalization and four receiving on-site medical attention.
