Track & Field Team member Kyran Planalp passes away at 22: obituary

Terre Haute, IN – Kyran Planalp, a cherished member of the Track & Field Team, passed away on December 23, 2023, leaving behind a community in grief. At just 22, his infectious smile and friendly nature touched the lives of many in Terre Haute, Indiana.

While no cause of death has been disclosed, Kyran’s family confirmed this heartbreaking news, leaving a void in the lives of those who cherished him. Known for his love for family and an ever-welcoming demeanor, Kyran’s loss is deeply felt.

Born on September 24, 2001, in Anderson, IN, Kyran spent his early years in Elwood before moving to Frankton. A graduate of Frankton High School’s class of 2020, Kyran’s high school journey was marked by his active involvement in sports and community ties with Orestes Christian Church.

His athletic prowess spanned running, starting his cross-country journey in second grade, inspired by his older brother. Achieving milestones like reaching Semi-State in 2019 and 2020, Kyran’s dedication to running was evident. He also excelled in wrestling, securing championships during his tenure with FHS Wrestling.

Coach Andre Lo played a significant role in shaping Kyran’s athletic career, instilling values of faith, commitment, and perseverance. Beyond sports, Kyran found joy in simpler activities like gaming, music, camping with family, and fishing.

Kyran is survived by his loving family, including his mother Tiana O’Brien, parents Jerrico & Loranda Planalp, siblings, and a wide circle of relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Rick Planalp.

Visitation and funeral services to honor Kyran will take place on December 30, 2023, at Harper and Dunnichay Funeral Home in Frankton, Indiana, followed by cremation.
