South Hill Mall Shooting cause lockdown, Heavy police presence

Puyallup, Washington – The Puyallup Police Department is currently engaged in a thorough investigation following a shooting incident at the renowned South Hill Mall on Tuesday. According to law enforcement agencies, multiple shots were fired at the mall, located on 3500 S Meridian in Puyallup.

In response to the incident, Puyallup Police have taken precautionary measures, urging motorists to seek alternative routes as both directions of 31st SW Avenue have been temporarily closed for investigative purposes. The closure spans from 9th St SW to Meridian, with the eastbound off-ramp to 512 also affected.

Workers at the mall, eyewitnesses to the alarming incident, reported hearing approximately five to six shots fired late Tuesday evening. The situation prompted a swift and comprehensive response from law enforcement. The Puyallup Police Department, in a tweet, provided an update on the ongoing investigation, indicating the closure of both east and westbound lanes on 31st Ave SW and advising the public to use alternate routes.

South Hill Mall, a significant retail hub in the region, is fully enclosed and has been a prominent shopping destination since its establishment in 1988, undergoing expansion in 1992. Boasting over 100 retailers, a food court, and a movie theater, the mall covers an expansive area of 1,074,230 square feet, available for lease. The incident raises concerns about the safety and security of public spaces, with authorities actively working to ensure the well-being of the community.
