SEVENTEEN, the K-pop superstar, will attend the 2022 Asian Artist Awards in Japan. On the other hand, Pledis Entertainment revealed that THE8 and JUN members will not be able to attend the awards event. According to the agency’s official statement:
“JUN and THE 8 members of SEVENTEEN will not be able to attend the “2022 Asia Artist Awards IN JAPAN” due to their personal schedules. Therefore, 11 members will participate in this event.”
The 2022 awards event, which recognizes Asian talent in music, television and film, will be held on December 13 at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya. THE BOYZ, Stray Kids, ITZY, TREASURE, IVE, Kep1er, LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans were other K-pop acts performing at the event. CARATs speculate on the real reason behind SEVENTEEN The8 and Jun’s absence from the upcoming awards show.

After Pledis made the reveal on social media, CARATs, the group’s official fans, speculated about the two members’ personal schedules. Since Jun (Wen Junhui) and The8 (Xu Minghao) are both Chinese, people theorized that the real reason they missed the event in Japan was that December 13 is a memorial day in China.
One supporter wrote:
“I guess it’s because December 13 is the official commemoration of the Nanjing Massacre, and they can’t compete in Japan for that reason.”
Another fan commented:
“December 13 is a Chinese day to commemorate the victims of the Nanjing Massacre, a day when entertainment is prohibited in China and the victims of this war were massacred by the Japanese, so it is inappropriate to visit Japan on this day.”
Although fans were disappointed that the group would not be attending the event, the CARATs still commended Pledis Entertainment for the sensible move that would otherwise cause problems for the Chinese members.
At LA3C, SEVENTEEN put on a powerful performance.
On December 10, 2022, the thirteen-member K-pop group made history by performing at the first LA3C, or Los Angeles, Capital of Culture and Creativity event. The hour-long performance evolved into a mini-concert for the band, as they performed some of their best songs to a standing ovation from the CARATs in the crowd. They performed HOT, Left and Right, Very Nice, and the holiday version of the English song Darl+ing.
Fans were especially captivated by the SEVENTEEN leaders’ Cheers performance, in which dance leader Hoshi dazzled the audience with some crazy gestures and lines on stage. Meanwhile, the vocalists of Don’t Wanna Cry, along with HYBE president Bang Si-hyuk, received the Cultural Ambassador Award on the opening day of the event. The award highlights their efforts in integrating Korean and Asian cultures into American society.
