At a House Committee hearing on “weaponization of the federal government” on Thursday, former NY Post columnist Emma Jo Morris talked about how social media and government responded to her 2020 report on “the laptop from hell.”
Ms. Emma Jo Morris I work for Breitbart as a political editor. I’m here because I wrote a series about Hunter Biden’s now famous laptop, also known as The Laptop From Hell, in October 2020, three years ago. These articles are considered one of the most scandalous reports of the past ten years.
However, the report’s exposure of the evil alliance between the intelligence community, social media platforms and traditional media is perhaps more shocking than the investigation itself.

When I was deputy political editor of the New York Post at the time, my reporting revealed that, despite then-candidate Joe Biden’s vehement denial, he appeared to be involved in his family’s international business dealings. I released legitimate, verified emails from the hard drives of Biden descendants days, just weeks before Americans voted to elect their next president, exposing Ukrainian business partners to receiving leaks from Obama’s White House. I made public the unrecorded meeting between then-Vice President Biden and a Ukrainian energy executive, and I made “Big Man” famous for getting a contract with CEFC China and launching an energy business.
The FBI has been in possession of the information underlying the story since December 2019, according to a federal subpoena published by The Post. It also identifies our source.
The material was immediately banned on all major platforms on the grounds that it was described as having been hacked or misinformed by Russia when the articles first appeared on the social network that morning, where millions of Americans came to find their news and the editors came to seek their views.
Twitter bans people from sharing the story’s link, bans sharing it in private messages (which, incidentally, is used to crack down on child pornography), and locks the Post from its verified account.
Facebook has announced that it will limit the visibility and reach of links on its platform.
The accusations, which at the time appeared to have come true, were based neither on hacked documents nor on Russian disinformation, as we shall see later. Five days after The Washington Post began publishing, on October 19, Politico published an article titled “The Hunter Biden story is Russian disinformation, dozens of former Intel officials say.”
Veteran members of the US intelligence community falsely claimed in a letter published by Politico that the Post’s article contained “all the classic signs of Russian information activity”.
Former DNI Jim Clapper, former CIA John Brennan and Michael Hayden are the most notable signatories of the letter. Although their credibility has been diminished due to their involvement in Russian conspiracy theories.
When Biden was confronted with the details of the Post’s disclosure a few days later, on October 22, during the second presidential debate, he replied to Trump: “Fifty former national intelligence experts have stated this. He claimed I was involved in a Russian scheme. However, that’s not the case. He is aware of that.
Move forward to the current year, that is, after three years. Just last spring, House investigators discovered that the spy letter released by Politico was the result of a call by the current secretary of state, Antony Blinken, to the previous acting director of the CIA, Michael Morell. This call broke the standard body approval procedures to be followed. Now, it’s clear that federal agents instigated social media businesses to carry out a discrediting operation prior to my reporting. Censorship of the platform is believed to be overseen by the FBI and other members of the intelligence community, according to internal documents made public by Elon Musk after he acquired Twitter. This is done both externally by working with senior management and internally by social media companies that employ a staggering number of former intelligence officers.
According to documents journalist Michael Schellenberger received from Musk, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies repeatedly directed a Twitter executive to ignore allegations that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a Russian hacking and leak operation throughout 2020.
The Fed even built encrypted messaging networks that it nicknamed “virtual war rooms” and secured top-secret security information for Twitter’s management.
Hundreds of members of the intelligence community still work for social media businesses today. Almost every major news organization has endorsed my reporting over the past few years.
No one disputes the existence of the laptop and its history is exactly what I initially revealed. This elaborate censorship plot is not the result of reported material being inaccurate; rather, it is because it is true and poses a threat to the political establishment of the country. The relationship between representatives of the United States government and American businesses reflects an unprecedented attempt to undermine the First Amendment, allowing us the freedom to say, write, and think whatever we want. And how we react will determine whether we believe in the inviolability of a free press.
