A road rage incident in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood on November 8, 2023, resulted in a temporary lockdown at the Starbucks headquarters after shots were fired nearby. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) confirmed that while no one was shot, an injured driver involved in the road rage incident crashed and ended up at the Starbucks building on Utah Ave.
KOMO News cameras captured footage of a man being wheeled out on a stretcher from inside the Starbucks building. Starbucks promptly notified its employees of the lockdown, citing an “active threat” in the vicinity. Employees were instructed not to evacuate unless in immediate danger, and front doors were secured.
Witnesses described the scene, with one employee mentioning the sound of a pop and the subsequent arrival of police holding guns. Customers in the café reported a large police presence and the concern of an active shooter in the parking lot.
After approximately 20 minutes, Starbucks issued an “All Clear” notification, stating that Seattle police had declared there was no longer a threat in the area. The Starbucks building resumed normal operations, and alternative transportation options were offered to employees.
