Samantha Kalkbrenner, 15, Serra Catholic student, killed in Dravosburg accident: Obituary

Dravosburg, Pennsylvania – In a devastating incident in Dravosburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, 15-year-old cheerleader Samantha Lee Kalkbrenner lost her life in a tragic crash involving a school van from Serra Catholic High School and a speeding car. The collision left debris scattered, and several students and adults hospitalized, painting a grim picture of the accident site.

The fatal crash occurred when the van, transporting Serra Catholic High School students, was struck by a car making a left turn onto Richland, resulting in a chaotic scene and leaving pieces of the car strewn across the road. Bystanders rushed to the aid of the trapped children, breaking windows and attempting to rescue them from the fiery van.

Tragically, Samantha lost her life in the collision, and five others, including three students, were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The two drivers, responsible for the van and car, were in critical condition upon admission to the hospital, as reported by Allegheny County police.

The local community expressed concerns about the accident-prone spot, which has witnessed several crashes over the years. While investigations are ongoing, it remains uncertain if speed played a significant role in this heart-wrenching incident. In response to the tragedy, Serra Catholic High School temporarily closed, canceling all school activities and organizing a prayer service to mourn Samantha’s passing.

The Catholic Diocese expressed profound sorrow over the loss and emphasized the close-knit nature of the Serra Catholic school community. Bishop David Zubik called for prayers and unity during this painful time, underscoring the value of supporting one another in the face of tragedy.
