Ryan Gibbs and Jessica Diane killed in murder-suicide

Plainfield, Indiana – In a devastating turn of events, a murder-suicide unfolded in Plainfield, Indiana, claiming the lives of 41-year-old Ryan Gibbs and 47-year-old Jessica Diane Stoebick. The Plainfield Police Department is actively investigating this heart-wrenching incident that occurred early Monday morning inside a residence.

Law enforcement responded to a reported burglary at 5878 Grevillea Lane, near Moon and Miles roads, around 4:00 a.m. on December 18. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Jessica Diane Stoebick and Ryan Gibbs within the home. Gibbs, identified as Stoebick’s ex-husband, was found on the premises, where authorities observed a shattered basement entry window, indicating a possible point of entry.

Three teenage children present during the incident were fortunately unharmed and swiftly alerted the police, who arrived promptly. Plainfield authorities have categorized this tragic event as a murder-suicide and have reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

“This investigation profoundly impacts the family, especially during the holiday season. We urge the community to support the affected family by keeping them in their thoughts and prayers,” stated the police in a released statement.

Court records indicate that Stoebick had obtained protective orders against Gibbs on separate occasions, first in October 2021 and subsequently in April 2023. The investigation is ongoing, and Detective Taylor Wilson can be reached at 317-754-5284 for anyone with additional information.

“According to public records, Ryan Gibbs violated protective orders 4 times – 03/09/2021, 12/13/2021, 04/10/2023, and 04/17/2023.I have to wonder why this was allowed to happen to Jessica Stoebick. Restraining orders didn’t work. Misdemeanor arrests didn’t work. Felony arrests didn’t work.Is there anything further than arrests and incarceration that could have prevented this? Realistically, what additional measures can people in these situations take to protect themselves?Obviously there are self-defense classes, home security systems, and bearing arms, but what other measures can the police or the judicial system enact to prevent these cases from escalating beyond the point of no return?Honest questions. Just feeling horrible for the people involved, and feeling hopeless for victims of domestic violence and abuse everywhere.”
