To preserve the integrity of frontline officers, Ron Taverner has announced that he is withdrawing from consideration for the next commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police.
In light of the controversy surrounding his appointment late last year, the 72-year-old director of Toronto Police announced in a statement Wednesday night that he would not accept the position. Prime Minister Doug Ford’s family friend Taverner has been hired, sparking allegations of political interference in the selection of the best police officer in the province.
