Long Grove, IL – In a heart-wrenching incident, 22-year-old Rene Sepulveda from Island Lake, IL lost his life following a tragic collision involving a box truck and a semitrailer in Long Grove. The accident took place on Tuesday around 10:10 a.m. on Route 53, a quarter mile north of Lake-Cook Road.
Sepulveda, driving northbound on Route 53, inexplicably crossed into the southbound lanes, resulting in a collision with a southbound 2016 Freightliner. The collision led to fatal injuries, determined to be caused by blunt force, according to an autopsy conducted by the Lake County Coroner’s office.
Tragically, Sepulveda’s life was cut short, leaving the community in mourning. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident with their Technical Crash Investigations Unit. The crash also left two others seriously injured – a male passenger in the box truck and the driver of the semi, both of whom were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly to the scene, where they found the box truck and semi-truck had collided head-on, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the details surrounding this tragic event.
