Biography of Professor Ikonne
His full name is Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, but he is commonly known by the nickname Professor Uche Ikonne. He teaches optometry at a university in Nigeria and is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for governor of Abia state in 2023.

He was educated at the illustrious and famous Ngwa High School in Aba which later evolved into the Faculty of Law and Aba Campus of what was then known as Imo State University and now known as Abia State University. .
Before coming to the Philippines to study optometry, Uche Ikonne was a student at St. Augustine in Nkwere, where he earned his High School Diploma. He then transferred to another academic institution in the Philippines.
At Central University of Manila in the Philippines, young Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne displayed incredible and enviable excellence as a student of Optometry. Here he not only earned his Doctor of Ophthalmology but also graduated from the Specialized Master’s program in Hospital Ophthalmology Management and Practice. Both of these achievements deserve to be admired and admired by others.

Professor Ikonne Political career
Professor Uche Ikenna emerged as the flag bearer of the PDP in the state of Abia in May 2022.
He collected 468 votes to beat five other contestants in a drill that took place under tight security conditions.
Mr Lucky Igbokwe came in second with 45 votes, while the only female contestant, Ngozi Merenge, got 5 votes.
Other contestants, including Deputy Governor Ude Oko-Chukwu, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Emma Nwaka, had previously announced their withdrawal from the race.
However, they were recorded with six, five and four votes, respectively.
Additionally, Greg Ibe, who officially defected from the All Progressive Grand Alliance on April 17, was also credited with two votes.
Other aspirants who withdrew from the race were Ncheta Omerekpe, Enyinnaya Nwafor and Chima Anyaso.
However, they were recorded with three, four and five votes, respectively.
Prof. Ikonne’s career
- Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne worked as a pioneer academic officer in the optometry school at the former Imo State University Etiti Campus, now known as Abia State University, after returning to Nigeria in 1986. Abia State University is where he completed his studies. required to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Health Sciences. 2006 was the year he was promoted to Professor. Uche Ikonne was appointed Rector of Abia State Polytechnic University, Aba – (on Rescue Mission) in 2014 and held that post until 2015. He was appointed as the Second Vice-Chancellor. 7 of Abia State University in December 2015. Before becoming Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Uche Ikonne held several positions, including: Vice-Chancellor (Academic), ABSU-2010 -2014

Professor Ikonne’s family
Lawyer Uzoamaka G. Uche Ikonne, who later became Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General of the State of Abia, was married to Uche Ikonne during his lifetime.
The union resulted in the birth of two boys.
Professor Ikonne Cause of Death
Professor Uche Ikonne has passed away. His death was verified by his son and it was covered by the vast majority of major media.
His son, Dr Uche Ikonne, released a statement on Wednesday saying, “I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who passed away at Abuja National Hospital today, January 25, 2023 at 4 a.m. after a brief illness.” The statement read: “I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne.”
“He got better after receiving proper care in the UK; however, a failure a few days ago resulted in a continuous cardiac arrest that made it impossible for him to recover. He passed away from his injuries.
After the family has had a chance to consider and discuss the matter together, “further events and preparations will be made public,”
