Hannah Dasher, a neo-traditionalist and newcomer to country music, is revolutionizing the entertainment industry in Nashville. Dasher, a native of Savannah, Georgia, claims that before she started writing songs, she knew she was an artist.
According to my mother, I was able to sing before I could speak, Dasher announced to the American Musician. “And then, during my first year of college, my parents divorced. This was the first time I faced a loss that felt like death. I started writing because I needed to get rid of my frustrations, worries, and insecurities in some way. My songs were terrible, but my friends insisted on listening to them, so I sang them.
Dasher, who was becoming more confident as a performer, dropped out of school and moved to Nashville, where she settled in an apartment near Music Row. At Bass Pro Shops, she worked as a salesman for fishing boats and outboard engines but was eventually fired to compose songs while at work. Soon after, she landed her first publishing deal and first cut, Brad Paisley’s “Go To Bed Early.” Dasher began releasing her own music in 2019 with the singles “The Tree” and “Stoned Age”, opening for musicians including her hero Bocephus, The Cadillac Three and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Half Record, Dasher’s debut studio album, will be made available through Sony Music Nashville on July 9. The strategy is deceiving, like her journey so far.
My original idea was to release an entire record, but you know how money and things work, she explains. “The EP is only half of what I mean; sounds too fashionable. Thank God my work as an artist is unique, so I feel it’s a bit different than anything else out there.
Dasher has been selected as CMT Next Women of Country performer of 2021 as well as Fender’s Next Artist of 2021. She is best known for her TikTok cooking show, “Stand By Your Pan”, which has attracted has over 1.2 million followers and over 13 million likes outside of the music industry.
