Gainesville High School senior and standout pitcher/catcher, Jeremy Medina, is in a coma after sustaining a severe head injury in a tragic accident on Monday. The incident occurred when Jeremy was struck by a baseball bat while practicing in the batting cage on the school campus.
The news has left the Gainesville community in shock and devastation. School representatives confirmed that Jeremy, a key player in the 2022 baseball team, was hit in the head during the practice session, leading to his current comatose state. Medical staff at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center placed him in a coma to address the severity of his injuries.

Jeremy Medina is one of the finest kids I’ve ever coached. Great kid, great teammate, and great ball player. His smile and love for the game is something I’ll never forget. He and his family have been a blessing to me. Truly great people that love God and trust in his plan for all of us. Pray for him!! He is a difference maker.
“The entire Gainesville community is devastated by the news. School administrators, the team, and coaches are in contact with the family. Jeremy and his family are firm believers in Jesus Christ and His redemptive love, and are requesting prayer during this extremely difficult time,” officials stated in a press release.
Prayers and well-wishes for Jeremy’s quick recovery are pouring in from the community and beyond. Chestatee High School Baseball also expressed support, acknowledging Jeremy’s tenacity on the field and hoping he continues to fight with the same grit.
