Oregon Episcopal School, located in Southwest Portland, experienced a brief lockdown on Thursday afternoon in response to a threatening phone call received by a staff member.
According to a spokesperson from the school, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. when a staff member received a threatening phone call from an external source. Although the threat was directed at the individual rather than the school itself, the institution’s security protocol prompted a swift lockdown of the campus. All students and employees were safely secured within campus buildings within a span of 10 minutes.
Law enforcement officials from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to the school’s call for assistance. After conducting a thorough assessment to ensure the safety of all buildings, authorities determined it was safe to lift the lockdown at 3:51 p.m.
Throughout the lockdown and subsequent release of students, officers remained on campus to support the controlled dismissal process. School officials emphasized that there was no active threat present on the campus at any point during the incident.
In response to the unsettling event, counselors will be available to assist students in processing the incident on the following day. The school community remains vigilant and committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff members.
