The community of Delaware County is in mourning following the tragic loss of Officer Joseph Montgomery, a dedicated Delaware County Park police officer. Officer Montgomery passed away while in the line of duty on Friday, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those he served and worked alongside.
Officer Joseph Montgomery was a man of extraordinary valor, serving as a decorated police officer, paramedic, and firefighter. His commitment to public service was unparalleled, spanning over 30 years in the field of emergency services. Before joining the Delaware County Park Police in August 2022, he had a longstanding career as a paramedic with Riddle Memorial Hospital and the Mainline Health System. Additionally, he served as the Fire Chief of Edgmont Fire Company, leaving an indelible mark on the community through his selfless service.

“Last night Delco Emergency Services lost a true responder ! Joseph Montgomery aka Big Sexy, Big Daddy and Grummy! From being Fire Chief at Edgmont Fire. EMS Capt and Medic at Lima Fire. Medic at Riddle Hospital, Part Time FF/EMT at Goshen Fire and West Grove Fire. Most recently a Park Police Officer for Delaware County. Can’t forget starting EMS at Arasapha Farm’s. I met Joe thru Lima Fire. We had a lot of good time in the station and out. Duffer’s Tavern will not be the same. Last night was filled with emotions and Big Sexy stories. Joe you will be sorely missed !!!”
During his tenure with the Delaware County Park Police, Officer Montgomery not only exemplified dedication and courage but also served as the department’s CPR/AED Instructor, showcasing his profound knowledge of emergency services. He was a beacon of hope and support for his fellow officers and community members, always willing to provide guidance and expertise.
