Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicily, August 6, 2023 – The world mourns the passing of Michele Bono, a man whose life was a tapestry woven with strength, love, and cherished moments. Born in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicily on September 11, 1932, he passed away on August 6, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, family, and love.
Michele Bono’s life journey began in Italy, where he served his country with dedication in the Italian military. A man of quiet strength, he pursued a path that reflected his character – private yet full of heart. Michele’s early years saw him as a skilled shoemaker and later, as a part of Sciacca Terme, a thermal spa. His youthful ambition led him to apprentice as a bricklayer at the tender age of fourteen. It was during his time in the military that he steered a vehicle for the first and only time in his life.
Michele’s passions were as diverse as they were heartfelt. He held a deep love for boxing matches, soccer games, and classic movies, particularly the iconic “The Godfather” trilogy. His ability to whistle any tune became a trademark of his presence. Michele’s caring nature extended to his family and friends – he never missed a birthday or a saint’s day and had a knack for lifting spirits with his humor.
His devotion was embodied in his marriage to Marianna Giarratano on July 28, 1959. Together, they embarked on a journey that brought them to America in 1973, where they raised their four children: Calogero, Giuseppina, Giuseppe, and Pietra.
Michele’s love for family, soccer, and hearty meals was evident to all who knew him. He relished big Sunday dinners surrounded by loved ones and savored his favorite foods, whether it was a fine steak, a McDonald’s cheeseburger, or a plate of wings. He found immense joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their laughter echoing the love he poured into their lives.
In his final days, Michele was surrounded by family, a testament to the bonds he had nurtured throughout his life. He was reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Marianna, their son Giuseppe, his parents Calogero and Giuseppa, and siblings who had gone before him.
Michele Bono’s passing is a reminder of the impact one person can have on those around them. His memory lives on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were touched by his warm spirit.
As we honor his memory, the family has chosen to remember Michele in a private Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request donations to the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org) as a tribute to his enduring legacy of strength, love, and compassion.
