Dublin – Emerald High School in Greenwood was gripped with anxiety after school officials reported a concerning incident involving the distribution of an illicit substance to students on Friday morning. As a precautionary measure, five students were rushed to the hospital, sparking concerns and questions about the safety and well-being of the students.
The alarm was first raised when a resource officer at Emerald High School received information from Greenwood School District 50 about a student potentially distributing an illegal substance to their peers on campus. While the exact nature of the substance was not disclosed in the initial statement, it set off a chain of events that raised alarm bells throughout the school community.
School administrators, along with the resource officer, swiftly initiated an investigation into the situation, which included interviews with the suspected student and several others. The investigation revealed that the student was indeed in possession of an illegal substance, and the student reportedly confessed to distributing it to four other students, as reported by 7News.
In response to the incident, one of the concerned parents took one of the affected students to the hospital for a check-up. Emergency medical services were also dispatched to transport the remaining four youngsters to the hospital for evaluation, ensuring their safety and well-being.
The school system issued a statement indicating that the student found in possession of the illegal substance will face legal charges and disciplinary action in accordance with the school board’s policies.
