The search for Joseph “Joe” Ladnier concluded on Friday with the discovery of his body in Mobile County, where his abandoned truck had previously been found. The 60-year-old Hurley man, missing since Christmas Eve, was located by members of the United Cajun Navy and Jackson County K-9 units.
Mobile County Sheriff’s Department, taking charge of the search on Thursday, revealed that Ladnier’s red Toyota Tundra was discovered in Chunchula, Alabama, around 20 miles from Mobile. Brian Thrasher, vice president of United Cajun Navy, disclosed that Ladnier’s remains were found near a cell tower, approximately 200 yards from where his truck had been parked.
Details inside Ladnier’s truck included a pillow, a laptop in a computer bag, $146 in cash, and an empty pistol holder. Despite a thorough search, investigators found no evidence suggesting Ladnier had entered a vacant nearby home.
Despite efforts involving Southern Star Search and Rescue canines, drones, and a seven-hour search by Mobile County sheriff’s detectives, the case remains under investigation. Authorities are seeking information or tips related to the case.

While the possibility of foul play has not been confirmed, Ladnier’s family, comprising his wife, 10 adult children, and 14 grandchildren, remained optimistic throughout the search. His daughter, Taylor Manning, expressed gratitude for the support received from the community.
The family’s concerns grew as Ladnier, a kidney transplant recipient requiring daily medication, remained missing. Known for owning a gym and working as a fitness coach in Hurley, Ladnier’s disappearance stirred widespread concern and efforts to locate him.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward, hoping for closure in this distressing search for Joseph Ladnier.
