Residents of Fairfield, Alabama, were struck by tragedy on Friday, December 22, 2023, as Michaya Jumese encountered a fatal accident on Bessemer Super Highway in Midfield. The collision occurred when another woman, attempting to evade law enforcement, collided with Michaya’s vehicle.
In a devastating event, Michaya Jumese lost her life when a woman, fleeing a traffic stop in a stolen truck, collided with her vehicle. The incident occurred before 9 p.m. in Midfield, triggered by law enforcement detecting a stolen Ford F-150 through a Flock Safety camera—a license plate reader.
Midfield police Sgt. Michael Jeffries reported that an officer pursued the stolen truck, but the chase was called off when the fleeing driver dangerously swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in the fatal collision.

Regrettably, Michaya was pronounced dead at the scene, having been ejected from her vehicle upon impact.
Following the collision, the driver of the stolen pickup received medical examination at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody. The identity of this individual has not been disclosed.
Midfield police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are conducting comprehensive investigations. The focus includes both the criminal aspects involving the stolen vehicle and the details surrounding the fatal crash.
