ANTIOCH, Ill. — On Friday, August 11, 2023, the community bid farewell to Michael John Ruggles, a vibrant soul who touched the lives of many. At the age of 62, Michael passed away in Antioch, Illinois, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and entrepreneurship.
Born on June 15, 1961, in Waukegan, Illinois, Michael was welcomed into the world by his parents, Robert and Judith (McNiff) Ruggles. In the embrace of St. Peter Catholic Church in Antioch, Illinois, on August 16, 1986, Michael united in marriage with Deborah Adams. Their union was a source of immense joy and companionship, spanning 37 fulfilling years.
Michael’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family and close-knit circle of friends. He lived with boundless energy, embracing every moment with the utmost enthusiasm. His passions extended to the great outdoors, where he found joy in flying, waterskiing, and snowmobiling. Family excursions to the mountains and lakes held a special place in his heart, underscoring his love for nature and adventure.
A proud entrepreneur, Michael fearlessly navigated various ventures, guided by the belief that challenges only enhanced the rewards of success. His industrious spirit drove him to continually expand his skill set, setting an inspiring example for those around him.
Michael’s love for family was unparalleled. He adored his children, Dennis (Stacey) Adams, Bill (Tracie) Adams, Kimberly (Chris) Gorzelnik, and Michael (Trisha) Ruggles II, and took great pleasure in passing down his wisdom to his beloved grandchildren: Tyler and Brandon Adams, William II and Blake Adams, and Mikayla and Michael Ruggles III.
