In a somber announcement, the passing of Michael Kuelker, co-host of the Positive Vibrations show on KDHX for 26 years, has left a void in the hearts of many. Described as an amazing writer, historian, researcher, DJ, music enthusiast, teacher, parent, colleague, and friend, Michael’s sudden departure occurred peacefully in his sleep.
A stalwart figure in the efforts to preserve KDHX’s values, Michael’s influence extended beyond his radio endeavors. Retired from a lengthy career as a professor at Lindenwood University, he was also a published author, leaving behind two impactful books: “Book of Memory: A Rastafari Testimony” and “Daredevils on Record: A Narrative Discography.”
Michael’s commitment to social justice, truth, and individual liberties was unwavering, evident in his role as the secretary for the Board of Directors of Potbangerz—Feed The Body Mission, a charitable organization providing food distribution to the homeless in St. Louis. Known for his acts of kindness, Michael’s legacy is not only felt locally but resonates on an international scale.
His daughter Natalie and wife Nancy attest to his successful and fruitful existence, while members of the international reggae community, shocked and saddened by his passing, reflect the breadth of his influence. Michael Kuelker’s considerate and kind nature has left an indelible mark, and the Positive Vibrations show will forever stand as a testament to his enduring commitment to the values he held dear. The reggae community, both in the United States and Jamaica, joins in mourning the loss of a true advocate for positivity and social consciousness.
