Matt Hobbie, Redondo Beach Baseball coach passed away at age 48 in Sarasota, FL

Sarasota, FL – The Sarasota community is in mourning as it grapples with the heartbreaking loss of Matt Hobbie, a cherished son and native of the city. Matt passed away on Friday, September 16, 2023, leaving his family and friends devastated. The news of his passing was shared on Facebook by his father through a heartfelt post that read, “Dear friends, I need to inform you of the passing of our son Matt. He went to sleep Friday night and never woke up. Right now that’s about all we know.” The exact cause of his untimely passing remains unknown at this time.

Originally hailing from Sarasota, Florida, Matt Hobbie eventually made his home in Redondo Beach, California. He embarked on his educational journey at Sarasota High School, culminating in his graduation in 1993. Following this milestone, he continued his pursuit of knowledge at the University of Kentucky, where he focused on communication studies. His academic journey eventually led him to the University of South Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in the year 2001.
