Before agreeing to be on our board, Mary wanted to ensure that North Kent Connect treats ALL people with compassion, dignity, and respect, no matter what their ethnicity. In addition to the NKC Board of Directors, Mary was co-chair of the Sparta Area Migrant Resource Council coordinating resources from area churches, nonprofits, and businesses to meet the needs of our migrant farmworkers.“Born in Grant, Michigan, she had a passion for migrant families. Having grown up in that community, she knew the challenges they faced. Mary understood rural poverty firsthand; her perspective was invaluable on the board. She was very relational and connected us to many people in the Latino community as chairperson of the Sparta Area Migrant Resource Council. I saw how Mary inspired young Latina leaders, built their confidence, and connected them to opportunities to advance their careers.“She will be missed greatly.Sincerely,Claire Guisfredi, Executive Director”
