News Martine Biron
Martine Biron, a former Radio-Canada journalist, confirmed Wednesday that she has maintained her journalistic standards throughout her career.
In response to questions about her rapid change from political analyst to Coalition Avenir Québec candidate in the upcoming election, Biron said that while still a journalist, she had not never gently criticize the party – or any other party, for that matter.
She admitted that Brigitte Legault, the general manager of CAQ, first approached her in January, but she declined the invitation to run. In July, Biron was on vacation when the group contacted her again. Biron claims that, at the age of 60 and after 35 years of journalism across Canada.
She minimized the fact that, for the previous six years a few weeks ago, she was working full-time as a political analyst in Congress.
At a press conference where Premier François Legault announced that Biron would run for office in the South Coast district of Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, which borders Quebec City, Biron announced, “I don’t wear two hats. . “
My career is founded on ethics. I have always been and will continue to be an ethical person. I’m not the first journalist to run for office, and I doubt I’ll be the last. According to Biron, Henri Bourassa, René Lévesque, Claude Ryan, former Alberta prime minister Ralph Klein and deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland are among other journalists who have turned to politics.
When asked by a reporter if she would maintain objectivity during her final months as a journalist, Biron encouraged her former colleague to research her work, including an analysis she wrote in June in which she described deputy chancellor Geneviève Guilbault as conceited.
In addition, Biron has publicly opposed the CAQ government’s plan to connect the city centers of Quebec City and Lévis through a tunnel beneath the St. Lawrence. Biron has stated as an analyst that the project has been subject to prolonged controversy and the plan
