Marti Cummings Was Invited To Attend The Respect For Marriage Act Signing At The White House

US President Joe Biden recently welcomed drag queen Marti Cummings to the White House to sign the Respect for Marriage Act. Cummings turned to Twitter to post a photo of the digital invitation, thanking President Barack Obama and First Lady Jill Biden for the opportunity. They stated:

“Becoming a non-binary drag artist invited to the White House is something I never dreamed would happen. Thank you to President Obama and Dr. Biden for inviting me to this historic legislative signing. “Gratitude does not begin to explain how I feel.”

The invitation came after the House of Representatives passed legislation requiring the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages in states where they are legal. However, shortly after Cummings announced the invitation, some of their previous comments regarding police budget cuts were revived on the internet. According to Fox News, the drag artist ran an unsuccessful campaign for the New York City Council in 2020, which included calls for police budget cuts.

A look at Marti Cummings’ previous controversial tweets

“I am proud to be a lesbian non-binary drag artist who wants to cut police funding and fund education, affordable housing and social work. I’m running for city council with a bunch of other weird candidates, and we’ll be fighting for you, the people, not the police union or the real estate.”

They added in another tweet:

“We want to reduce the police budget. Yes, we want to get rid of ICE. No, we will not accept anything less and will continue to fight for this.” Earlier this year, the singer allegedly tweeted about “ACAB Coffee” and expressed support for the acronym for “All Cops are B******s.”

Cummings went on to tweet in support of cutting police funding to invest in the community, saying:

“For me, it is still defiling the police and investing in the community!” It’s incredible to fund military police on education, housing, mental health treatment, parks, and free transportation.

Cummings also posted a video of her singing Baby Shark and dragging in front of a young player at a 2019 event on Twitter. They also support the concept of teaching scissors to young people, writing:

“Anyone who believes that scissors are not for young people is mistaken. Scissors are an expression and children are non-judgmental individuals; They don’t care what you’re wearing as much as they do what you’re doing.”

While Marti Cummings has voiced strong support for “defunding the police,” the White House has been silent on the matter. Fox News reported that President Biden said “the solution is not to starve the police” during a New York Police Department event in February. As Cummings’ comment went viral on social media, they decided to make their Twitter account private.
