Mark Huppe, EX-Saint Thomas Aquinas HS basketball coach, dies of cancer: obituary

Overland Park, KS – Mark Huppe, a revered figure in the basketball and education community of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on November 20th, 2023, following a valiant fight against cancer. His family shared the heartbreaking news of his passing on CaringBridge, recounting his peaceful departure surrounded by loved ones, including his grandchildren bidding their farewells.

A stalwart in education, Huppe commenced his educational journey in 1977 and traversed through various roles at several esteemed schools. His tenure spanned impactful stints at Bishop Miege from 1983 to 1986, followed by an influential period at St. Thomas Aquinas High School until 2003. Later, he dedicated himself to St. James Academy in Lenexa until his retirement in 2022, with an additional role as principal at St. Ann School from 2004 to 2009.

Beyond his educational endeavors, Huppe captivated Johnson County residents with his insightful sports commentary on Spectrum Sports for a decade. Renowned for his coaching philosophy centered on prioritizing player development, he forged enduring relationships and provided unwavering mentorship to those under his guidance.

But in turning to scripture, we find solace in John 11:25-26 “Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”We lift Coach Huppe, his family, and the St. James Community up in prayer during this difficult time.
