Man dies by suicide after jumping from Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida

Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating a tragic incident involving a death by suicide at the well-known Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida. The incident occurred late Tuesday evening, with reports indicating that a man took his life by jumping from the bridge.

Multiple agencies, including the Florida Highway Patrol, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Tampa Bay, and St. Petersburg Police, responded to reports of a possible jumper at the scene. Despite efforts by law enforcement to prevent the tragic act, the individual, identified only as a male, proceeded to jump off the Skyway Bridge.

The Florida Department of Transportation was also present, collaborating with law enforcement in the recovery process. Currently, police, fire rescue teams, and marine crews are actively investigating the scene.

As a result of the ongoing investigations, all Northbound lanes of the bridge on the Manatee Side have been closed to traffic. The distressing incident took place at approximately 4 p.m., and roughly half an hour later, the body of the individual was recovered. However, the identity of the deceased remains unknown.

The Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge, commonly referred to as the Sunshine Skyway, is composed of two extensive beam bridges and a central cable-stayed bridge that spans Lower Tampa Bay, connecting St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia.
