Mai Titi convicted of theft or her arrest is linked to the leaked video?

Comedian Mai Titi was convicted of theft of unsecured property. Judge Harare Munashe Chibanda presided over the trial, which ended with her sentence. Mai Titi has been remanded in custody until Wednesday when sentencing will take place.

The charges against the comedian include fraud and theft of trust property, stemming from her failure to pay a $10,000 debt and her use of a rented car as collateral. In May, she applied for discharge, but Judge Harare dismissed her application, ruling that she had a case to answer.

According to the first affidavit, Mai Titi allegedly cheated on Rachel Mhuka, the complainant, in September 2022, at the intersection of Second Street and Speke Avenue. She falsely claimed to need $10,000 for her business and offered a Mercedes Benz as collateral, knowing it didn’t belong to her. Mhuka believes in misrepresentation and hands over $10,000 in cash.

Mai Titi then took the car back, admitted it wasn’t hers and instead gave Mhuka another car, an Audi, as collateral, leaving an invalid passport. After realizing the passport was invalid, Mhuka returned it to Mai Titi, who then returned the Audi.

In January of this year, police seized the vehicle from Mhuka, claiming it belonged to a car rental company called Else Event Car Hire. This action is said to show Mai Titi’s fraudulent intentions, causing Mhuka to lose 10,000 USD and not get it back.

In the second, Mai Titi approached the complainant, Liberty Vazhura, who represented a car rental company, with the intention of renting a vehicle with an Audi Q5 engine. An agreement was made for weekly payments of $770 and a lease was signed. However, Mai Titi failed to make the weekly payments and was later instructed by Vazhura to return the car. As she evaded returning the vehicle, Vazhura reported the incident to the police, which resulted in the vehicle being recovered from Mhuka’s residence.

The judge described the case as a prime example of theft involving trust assets in her ruling.
