DeRuve Nick shares memories with Lauren Edwards on Facebook,
“Lauren Edwards was an easy person to be friends with. We had a twenty five year friendship and a great group of friends back home. Lauren made it a point to keep in touch with me, I’m always the one texting or calling people, but Lauren was great about poppin up on my phone and I loved it.
“We FaceTime a couple times a year and go on for hours. We just spoke on the 13th, which makes writing this all the more confusing. There’s tons of great memories I could speak to, and most of them include a large group of close friends and summer nights in the 518. But it’s 2013/14 that I want to speak to, because I hold it so deeply in my heart. At that time I was back in NY in my hometown producing a film, I also had a few actors out there with me and we were staying in Schenectady for much longer than we anticipated.
“During that time Lauren was a godsend. She hung out with us every single day and she brought her bright beautiful laugh and a lot of fun to a tough year. She was figuring out her own path at that time, and I think back on nights where it was pouring rain and we’d sit out on the porch for hours, sometimes talking the night away, other times just sitting quietly next to each other watching the storm. She’d bake us goodies, and sit in on our rehearsals. I also remember a lot of nights where we’d be singing and dancing till the sun came up.
“That was a very hard time in my life, and Lauren Edwards was there for me, she supported and believed in me, and she became a great friend to my friends who weren’t locals. I’m tired of saying goodbye to people that I love. I look back at Lauren’s girl gang, and all our friends from high school and feel sadness and a lot of love for us all. Time keeps ticking, we grow further apart, and eventually we only speak when we lose someone.
“Lauren and I spoke about this recently, and I’m terribly sad that someone who cared enough to call and text and check in is now gone. Way too young. The irony of this video from that time brings a tearful smile to my face. We’ll absolutely miss you Lauren. Rest in peace.”
Prior to her esteemed role at the Medical University of South Carolina, Lauren also dedicated herself to the service industry, working at Applebee’s Grill + Bar and Tala An American Bistro, leaving behind a trail of positive experiences and warm connections.
Known for her quick wit and agility, Lauren was a beacon of joy wherever she went. Her authentic concern for others and her ability to bring people together defined her character, making her an irreplaceable presence in the lives of those she touched. Her infectious laughter and genuine compassion resonated deeply with all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Her genuine friendships were a testament to her empathetic nature, as she consistently offered a listening ear and a comforting smile to those in need. Lauren’s altruism, along with her unique blend of humor and wisdom, cemented her as a beloved figure in the lives of her family and friends.
Throughout her life, Lauren remained unapologetically herself, leaving behind a legacy of authenticity and a trail of cherished memories. Her ability to find joy in every moment and to spread laughter will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have shared in her light.
