Laurel Wicks from La Crosse killed in car accident in Vernon County: obituary

La Crosse, WI – The passing of Laurel Wicks, a cherished resident of Cavour and previously La Crosse, Wisconsin, has left a profound sense of loss within her family, friends, and the community. Laurel’s untimely departure followed a devastating collision, as confirmed by a poignant social media announcement that spoke of her warmth and kindness.

The tragic incident unfolded on Friday afternoon, involving a collision between Laurel Elizabeth Wicks, 47, and a dump truck on Highway 35 near Mohawk Valley Road, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. Wicks, driving a 2005 Honda Pilot northbound, collided with a dump truck operated by Bobby E. Bendel, 59, from La Crosse. Bendel was waiting to make a left turn into a driveway when the collision occurred.

The impact trapped Wicks inside her vehicle, causing severe damage to the left side. Sadly, she did not survive the crash, as confirmed by Vernon County Coroner Betty Nigh, who pronounced her deceased at the scene. The incident led to a significant closure of Highway 35 and prompted the involvement of the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Technical Reconstruction Unit.

Following standard procedures, an inspection of the dump truck took place due to its involvement in the collision. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the tragic event.

Laurel Wicks, a Viterbo University and Western Technical College alumna, was known for her educational achievements. With a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies and Marketing and a Master of Business Administration in Ethical Leadership/Servant Leadership, she excelled in her professional pursuits. Laurel was the owner of Stone Groove Salon and held positions at Scenic Concepts and Combined Insurance before transitioning to roles at SpAH Lair LLC and Combined Worksite Solutions.
