Raleigh, North Carolina – The passing of Laura Zenk, a vibrant 23-year-old Probation Parole Officer and Softball Champion from Raleigh, North Carolina, has left a profound void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey, marked by a passion for criminology and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact, is celebrated and remembered with love.

Laura’s life began in Huntsville, Alabama, and eventually led her to Hermon, Maine, with ties to Huntsville and Hermon shaping her diverse background. She attended Hermon High School, where her infectious smile and uplifting spirit left a lasting impact on her peers. Laura’s warm and positive presence endeared her to many, making her a beloved friend.

Laura’s pursuit of academic excellence brought her to Eastern Connecticut State University, where she dedicated herself to her studies. From 2018 to 2022, she worked diligently, earning a Bachelor’s degree in criminology and sociology. Her educational journey paved the way for a promising career in the criminal justice field.

Her passion for criminology led Laura to serve as an Adult Probation Intern at the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch in Windham County in 2021 and 2022. This hands-on experience allowed her to grow as a professional within the criminal justice system.

Laura ultimately found her calling as a Probation Parole Officer at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Raleigh. In this role, she worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of individuals within the criminal justice system, leaving a meaningful mark on her community.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Laura was a beloved daughter to her mother, Sara Ann, and a loving sister to her brother, Jackson. Her radiant presence illuminated the lives of those around her.

Laura Zenk’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched. She was described as a source of infectious positivity, a force to be reckoned with despite her petite stature, fluent in sarcasm, a connoisseur of snacks, a dedicated napper, and a Just Dance Champion.

She is survived by her mother, Sara Luciano of Maine; her brother Jackson Zenk of Maine; her brother William McDonald and wife Joselyn of Vermont; her mother’s significant other, Tyler McIntosh, and his children, Hannah and Brody; grandmothers Barbara “Babs” Gray of Florida and Jane Zenk of Maine. Laura was preceded in death by her father, Carl Zenk, grandparents John Gray and Joseph Zenk, and great-grandparents Laverne & Clifford Miller, Laura & Robert Rosenwald, Ilse and Ernst Zenk. She also leaves behind her favorite companion and soulmate, Diesel.

A celebration of Laura’s life will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, from 2-4pm at the Penobscot Country Club, 366 Main St., Orono, ME 04473. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations to the Bangor Humane Society.
