Lakeland, FL – In a devastating incident, a 33-year-old motorcyclist lost his life early Saturday morning in Lakeland, following a collision with a pickup truck, as reported by the police.
The crash occurred in the 3900 block of New Tampa Highway, a little after 6:30 a.m., involving a blue Chevrolet pickup truck and a black Suzuki motorcycle.
According to authorities, 41-year-old Jason Rossi from Lakeland was driving his truck westbound on New Tampa Highway. Simultaneously, the motorcyclist, identified as 33-year-old Max Beagen from Lake Wales, was traveling east on the same road.
The preliminary investigation suggests that Rossi attempted to overtake a cement mixer also heading westbound. During this maneuver, Rossi pulled into the eastbound lane just as Beagen was approaching. The motorcycle collided with the front of the truck, resulting in Beagen being thrown off his bike.
Subsequently, the truck veered into the grassy area on the south side of the road, ultimately rolling over.
Emergency responders, including Lakeland Police Department Patrol Units, Polk County Fire Rescue, and Lakeland Fire Department, rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, Beagen succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
Rossi, the driver of the truck, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lakeland Regional Health for medical attention.
In the wake of the tragic incident, the road was closed for approximately four hours to facilitate an ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Traffic Crash Investigator Officer Travis Payne at [email protected].
The Lakeland community mourns the loss of Max Beagen and extends condolences to his family and friends affected by this heartbreaking accident. May he rest in peace.
