Kim Young-Gwon was born on February 27, 1990 in Jeonju, South Korea, the son of Kim Sung-Tae. His astrological sign is Pisces. He is Korean by nationality and has Asian roots. - Kim joined FC Tokyo in January 2010, making his professional debut on March 20 against Gamba Osaka. His first goal for FC Tokyo came on 6 June 2010, against Kyoto Sanga FC in the J. League Cup. He appeared in 23 matches in his first season with the club. However, after placing 16th in the table, the team was relegated to second place.
- Kim was traded to Omiya Ardija on 31 December 2010. He stayed at the club for two seasons, appearing in 40 games.
- Kim signed a four-year contract with Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande on 2 July 2012, for a reported amount of $2.5 million. He made his debut for Guangzhou Evergrande in the opening match of the 2012 China FA Cup quarter-finals on August 22. Tianhe Stadium was the site of a 1–0 victory. Three days later, he made his Chinese league debut, drawing 0-0 with Tianjin Teda.
- Kim’s contract was renewed in 2018 when it expired in 2016. After his contract expired, he moved to Japan and signed with Gamba Osaka. He worked with the club until 2018. The player played 91 matches and scored three goals in six seasons.
